Technique
Setup
Stand or sit upright. Hold one dumbbell with both hands, cupping the top head. Raise the weight directly overhead with arms extended.
Movement
Lower the dumbbell behind your head by bending at the elbows, keeping your upper arms stationary and close to your ears. Extend your arms to return to the start.
Form Tip
Keep your elbows pointing forward/upward. Do not let them flare out to the sides, which shifts tension away from the triceps.
Increase Difficulty
Use one dumbbell per hand for unilateral work or slow the tempo on the descent.
Decrease Difficulty
Perform the exercise seated to provide more back support.
