Technique
Setup
Stand on one leg on a flat surface or the edge of a step. Hold a dumbbell in the hand on the same side as the working leg for resistance.
Movement
Push up onto your toes as high as possible. Squeeze, then lower slowly. Use the other hand for balance on a wall.
Form Tip
Going unilateral immediately doubles the load on the working calf. Focus on a deep stretch at the bottom and a hard squeeze at the top.
Increase Difficulty
Hold a heavier dumbbell or perform without any wall support to challenge balance.
Decrease Difficulty
Perform without weights or go back to using both legs.
