Technique
Setup
Set a single handle on the lowest pulley and stand side-on to the machine. Take the handle in your far hand so the cable runs across the front of your body, and hold the machine with your other hand.
Movement
Raise your arm out to the side with a soft elbow bend until your hand reaches shoulder height. Lower slowly until your hand is back in front of your hip, then finish the set and switch sides.
Form Tip
Lead with your elbow and stop at shoulder height. The cable keeps tension at the bottom where dumbbells go slack, so control the lowering instead of letting the stack drop.
Increase Difficulty
Pause for 1 second at the top, or lean slightly away from the machine for a longer range.
Decrease Difficulty
Use the lightest plate, or switch to Lateral Raises with light dumbbells.
