Technique
Setup
Rest a light bar across your upper back as for a back squat, hands just outside your shoulders. Stand with feet hip-width and a soft bend in your knees.
Movement
Brace and push your hips back, lowering your torso toward parallel with the floor while your back stays flat. Drive your hips forward to stand tall.
Form Tip
Start light and stop before your back rounds; the bar sits on a long lever, so your hamstring stretch, not the depth, sets your range.
Increase Difficulty
Add weight gradually, or add a 2-second pause at the bottom.
Decrease Difficulty
Use the empty bar, or switch to Dumbbell Good Mornings.
